I asked KRCPerformance to install the ATI DS1 intercooled kit on my 1999 2500 408ci KRC built engine with no luck. The belt just would not tension properly. Even after numerous phone calls to the ATI tech lines and many hours of conversation. New belts, special belts. ATI could not solve the problem. KRC found that the intercooler for the kit was part of the cause and was able to make a little more boost without it. So ATI sent a larger custom intercooler. Put it all on and the belt still slips. The unit will just not build boost past 8 PSI, so, what do you do? Well ATI says the gearing in the DS1 may be the problem so they will help out by sending KRC a new blower at no additional cost. They send the F1 race blower with a better gear setup. Builds boost quicker due to the gear setup and should not load up and cause the belt to slip. This should work great right? Build boost quicker and not load the blower and intercooler.
WRONG! The brand new F1 blower has a impeller touch down (impeller rubs the inside of the housing) Caught it before it vomits pieces into the engine. Great work on KRCPerformances part in saving the engine. Thanks Guys!! Off with the F1 and back to ATI for replacement. You would think they would just pull another new one of the shelf or build a new one and send it out ASAP right. WRONG!! They promise a quick turn around but decide to rebuild the same F1 that failed. Now that's a comfort right!! A week later the rebuilt F1 arrives. Throw it back on the truck. Change the oil just in case we had metal from the touch down incident. Fire it up, all looks well and now we get excited about testing the new system. Makes 12 PSI boost. Getting ready to run it up a bit and ,wait what is that noise? Another impeller touch down. I can't believe what I am hearing. Two bad F1 Blowers!! In two tries!
I don't know about you guys but I am not willing to go for a third try with ATI. There out!!!!!
Oh,yes they knew it was going on a built 408 so out goes that excuse.
I guess they only support thier product if you race it and blow up two or three a year and your dumby sponsor just keeps buying new ones from them for you.
Give me my money back ATI your blower failed. They say no, only 50% of what I paid. Now that's a bunch of BS. Are they doing this so I can't afford to buy another brand blower. Got news for them, This bad customer service and treatment is going all over the performance web sites, forums, speed shops and tracks. I don't lay down when you steel my money. Everyone is going to hear how this outfit just wants your money and can't support their product for the Rams. This is BS.
In comes Vortec, Install The T trim Vortec, Leave on the Intercooler and what do you know, 14-PSI of boost and no belt slip. UUMMM. What's up ATI. Vortec gets it!! Off to the dyno on July 25th. Will post results as soon as available.
The nitrous is used to spray the intercooler to super cool the air flowing thru it. Good for about 70 HP.
